Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the people that can receive help from SACS? Citizens of Sparta, WI and surrounding communities who live in the service areas of Cashton, Cataract, Leon, Melvina, Norwalk, Rockland and Sparta and have a current diagnosis of cancer, and complete an application may be eligible for monetary support.

How does SACS use the money raised? Proceeds from the Walk/Rally & community donations are allocated for local cancer patient financial support, local cancer research at Gundersen and Mayo in La Crosse and minimal administrative support.

How does SACS raise money? Our biggest fundraiser is our Annual Walk/Rally Event. We also receive donations from individuals and business as well as memorials throughout the year.

What is the Walk/Rally event? The Walk/Rally is a fundraising event that has something for everyone! Many people enjoy walking the track. It’s a great way to get exercise, visit with your group and look at the hundreds of luminary candles that surround the track. Some people prefer not to walk and that’s okay too. There are many raffles, kids’ games, food, and entertainment for all ages! The gates open at 4:00 p.m. Opening ceremonies begin at 6:00 p.m. The night ends on a solemn note. All of the luminary candles are lit and each luminary name is read aloud.

Is food available at the walk? Yes! The concession stand is open, there are food vendors, and we have an amazing bake sale as well!

Individual or group? Call your friends, family and co-workers and tell them to mark their calendars.  There is no group too large or too small. Members are encouraged to collect donations for participating in the Walk/Rally event. If your group (team) has a name, it can be a business name, a cancer survivor, a group in memory of a loved one or an organization. The Walk/Rally Packets for registration are posted in the forms section of the website.

How do we turn in money? Monies are collected all year long. All SACS checks and cash can be dropped off at River Bank, Sparta. Please complete a sponsor sheet for SACS with your group (team)/individual name. Sponsor sheets can be found in the forms section of the website.

How do I purchase a luminary?  A luminary can be purchased by filling out a luminary form and mailing it to SACS, P.O. Box 130, Sparta, WI 54656. Luminary Forms can be found in the forms section of the website.
